Before comparing two Privacy Dashboard observations, identify the selected permission and the history window. A missing item is meaningful only in relation to the interval that the screen can show. Comparing different windows as though they were equal can manufacture an apparent change.

Write down the displayed interval

Google documents Settings, Security and privacy or Privacy, then Privacy dashboard. Android 13 shows the past seven days; Android 12 shows the past 24 hours. Choose a permission to inspect recorded app activity. Device menus can differ. Google's documented controls.

Follow one fictional camera observation

Suppose you observe a camera entry on Sunday morning. You review a past-24-hours view again on Monday afternoon. The Sunday-morning event is now outside that interval. If it is absent, the useful conclusion is that this later view cannot answer the question about that earlier event. It is not evidence that the Sunday note was false.

A seven-day view could still include Sunday at the same review moment. That does not mean the second device necessarily had more camera activity; it means the two screens have different coverage. Before comparing, write the selected permission, review moment and displayed interval beside each observation.

For an exercise, draw a line from Sunday morning to Monday afternoon and mark the start of the later 24-hour window. Place the Sunday event before that boundary. This makes the missing overlap visible without inventing counts or claiming to have tested a phone. Use relative times if the record will be shared publicly.

Decide whether comparison is possible

If the intervals overlap only partly, discuss the overlapping portion only. If an earlier screenshot has no visible interval or review time, leave the comparison unresolved. Do not silently substitute the current phone's version for the unknown version used to produce the earlier screenshot.

A saved permission choice and an activity record answer different questions. The former is not a count of actual use, while a dashboard view is not a complete forensic history. Report the limit alongside the observation instead of turning missing history into reassurance.
