Android green indicator: identify the camera or microphone user

Seeing a green indicator after closing a webpage does not prove that the webpage caused it. Start with the app or service Android identifies, not the last thing you remember viewing.

Seeing a green indicator after closing a webpage does not prove that the webpage caused it. Start with the app or service Android identifies, not the last thing you remember viewing. Timing alone can make an innocent sequence look like a causal explanation.

Identify the attributed app

On supported Android 12 or later devices, Google documents a camera or microphone indicator. Swipe down and tap it once to identify the app or service; tapping again opens permission controls. Device presentation can vary. Google's documented controls.

Keep a short sequence of observations

In a fictional example, you close a game guide, notice a microphone indicator and inspect it. The displayed name is Voice Recorder. Record those three events separately: guide closed; microphone indicator observed; Voice Recorder identified. Do not replace the third event with the guide's name because the guide was visible a moment earlier.

If someone sends only a screenshot of the green mark, the app attribution is missing. Ask for the displayed app or service name, without requesting a recording or other personal material. An uncropped name and a description of the indicator can answer the identification question more directly than speculation about the page's scripts.

A second observation might identify a different service. Keep a separate record for that later moment. Do not combine the two names into a claim that both services were active together unless the observation actually supports that timing. If the mark disappeared before inspection, say attribution was not captured.

Avoid claims about recordings or transfers

Your conclusion should state what Android identified and when you observed it. That is different from knowing why the app used the resource, whether anything was stored or whether information went elsewhere. Those questions require their own evidence; a confident accusation does not supply it.

No indicator check certifies every aspect of a website or app as safe. It also does not require granting a new permission. Preserve the distinction between an observed app name and an untested explanation so another person can follow the record without inheriting your assumptions.
